How Does Diet and Fat Intake Cause Breast Cancer
One of the risk factors that has been established as a predisposing factor to breast cancer is diet and fat intake.
Breast cancer rate has been found to correlate with amount of fat, alcohol, red meat, and caffeine in the diet. This is why the cases of breast cancer is high in countries with high fat content in their diets.
Countries with high fat content in diet
In these countries, their diet is high in fat as much as 38-42% of calories.
Breast cancer rates has also been found to be high in them.
Countries with low fat in their diet
- The fat content of their foods in Japan is less then 25% of calories.
People with high content of fats in their diets stand a higher chance of breast cancer because of higher production of steroid hormones like oestrogen. Oestrogen increases cancer. The more the oestrogen in the body, the bigger the risk of breast cancer.
Alcohol is also a pro oestrogen substance. It increases oestrogen production. So high intake of alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer.
Weight control and physical exercise has been shown to reduce the incidence of breast cancer. This probably occurs through the process that it burns down fat.
Diets that Reduce the incidence of Breast cancer
Diets with less than 20% calories as fat, reduces the oestrogen content by almost the same rate.
Remember oestrogen is the main driver hormone of breast cancer
Phytoestrogens – that’s is oestrogen from plant sources are protective again breast cancer.
High amounts of Calcium content in foods is helpful in protection against breast cancer.
Vitamin D too is also a good content in foods to give some protective roles in breast cancer.
