Why You do not see Your Period During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, your period ceases. That’s why period cessation is a sign that you could be pregnant.
But I know you may be wondering, why and how does that happen – that when one is pregnant, the period stops, that’s what I will explain to you in this post.
The essence of ovulation and menstruation is for you to have a baby.
So it may not be wrong to think that you are pregnant when you do not see your menstrual period.
The mucus and blood that you normally experience every month is the lining of your uterus that has shed off.
Why did that happen?
It is because your body has prepared the womb in anticipation that you will get a sperm that will fertilize the egg that you released during ovulation.
When there is no sperm to fertilize the egg that was released , your body will shed off the lining of the uterus which it has prepared for your new baby – that’s what you see as menses blood coming out from your genitals
So whenever this does not occur in any month, you should get worried because, it could be that you are pregnant.
What is the mechanism by which pregnancy prevents Menses
The hormone that maintains pregnancy and makes sure that your baby stays in your womb is progesterone .
Progesterone is like the gatekeeper. It keeps the baby in the womb so that miscarriage doesn’t happen.
So because progesterone is very important like this, the body produces progesterone in large quantities during pregnancy.
Progesterone in large quantity inhibits another hormone that is responsible for producing eggs that will make you see your period.
The hormone is follicle stimulating hormone . The work of this hormone is to mobilise the eggs to start maturing.
But because progesterone inhibits it’s production, the hormone will not be produced in pregnancy so that no eggs will be mobilised.
The resultant effect is that, no eggs > no ovulation> no menstruation .
I do hope you understand it. Please ask your questions.
